Autumn Elmwood Park

Yesterday we had a short, but pleasant, walk at Elmwood Park in Omaha.

Vicky at Elmwood Park

Weather forecast for Omaha called for a sunny afternoon, but the actual weather changed from partly cloudy to mostly cloudy while we were at the park. There was a bit of a breeze, a little cool, and jackets and hats were part of our gear. As you can see, Vicky also wore a pair of gloves.

We parked by the grotto, and headed up the trail past the golf course, then circled back to the bridge that connects to the back trail on the opposite side of the creek. Oh, there were a couple ducks at the golf course water trap.

The lawn at the park was mostly green, and the trees were pretty much bare of leaves.

Muddy Trail at Elmwood Park

I always prefer a walk down the back trail at Elmwood Park, but this time there was a muddy section of the trail that was just too muddy for us, and there was not a dry detour around the mud, so we headed back up the trail and wandered back to the bridge, and used the paved trail to get to the grotto.

This picture shows the back trail to Elmwood Park Grotto, and the muddy section is the dark area of the trail. The leaves beneath the trees were dry, and squirrels rummaging and running in the leaves made quite a noise.

Vicky is getting more creative with the camera, and that's me on the other bridge, with the grotto in the background.

We did take the "tunnel" under the road, then circled back to the car, and headed for home and a late lunch of pizza, which turned out to be enough to keep us full the rest of the day, so no dinner was needed.

It wasn't a huge walk, .85 miles was it, but it was nice to get out for a stroll through the park before winter and its snow arrives.

Halleck Park

Halleck Park Lagoon

Halleck Park Lagoon

Last weekend we wandered down to Halleck Park for a walk. It's been quite a while since we were there, and, as you know, things change over time.

Yes, Halleck Park has a very obvious change, and a very positive change.

What's that? Last time we were at this park, the lagoon water was shallower, and if the supporters of Halleck Park don't mind me reminding them, it was a bit dirty.

This time the water was higher, and the water was quite clean! Very impressive!

Halleck Park Fishing

Though it was a bit windy, people were fishing at various spots around the lagoon. Didn't notice anybody actually hook a fish, but it was a bit early in the year, I imagine.

Yet, as interesting as it was to watch people fish, the occasional bike rider(s) that rode by on the trail were of more importance to us. If you ever read our Bicycle Riders Journal, you will have discovered that we enjoy a ride on the Omaha trails every now and then.

We haven't ventured out for our first trail ride yet this year, but I've gone out a few times for bike rides around the neighborhood...

Miles walked this year: 8.75 miles

Baseball at Towl Park

We went for a late afternoon walk at Omaha's Towl Park today, and it really felt like spring. Was that only three days ago we had that cold wind and snow?

Wandered up the Big Papio Trail past the bridge and up to the neighborhood cutoff trail, came back, saw a pair of ducks hiding along the edge of the lagoon at Towl Park, which was nice to see. Wonder if there will be young ducks out there before long.

There were quite a few cars in the parking lot, and there was a baseball game going on, so we sat at a picnic table sort of behind home plate and watched for a while, till the sun got low and it became just a bit chilly.

Have no idea who the teams were, or what the score was, but it was fun to watch them, and Vicky cheered for both sides whenever they did something well.

I need to sometime search the internet to try to find a schedule of Omaha baseball games, not the professional, but just baseball games that would be fun to go watch. Hardball or softball wouldn't matter.

Yes, we took pictures, but they are still sitting in the camera...

I neglected to post our little walk at Council Bluff's Lincoln Memorial a while back, and that brought our year to date up to 6 miles walked.

Length of this walk: 1.12miles

Miles walked this year: 7.12 miles
