Yet More Omaha Snow

Record seasonal snowfall for Omaha? For some reason I can't find that on the internet, but the average annual snowfall for Omaha (Nebraska) is 29.8 inches (at Eppley Airfield).

As of midnight February 5, 2010 Omaha has had 41.3 inches of snow for the season, so we are way ahead of the average for the normal year. Lucky us!

Though I'd rather she didn't, Vicky went out and did a lot of snow shoveling before I got home from work. The deck, the walkway from the deck to where we park the car, and the spot where we park our car was neatly shoveled.

As you can see, Vicky dressed warmly for her cleanup of our latest round of snow. That was nice of her to spend 47 minutes shoveling so I didn't have to take a one minute walk through the snow. Note: Vicky timed her snow shoveling just for curiosity.

The driveway was a bit too much for Vicky, and I'm glad she waited till I got home and we shoveled that together. I had lots of trouble getting the car off the street and up the driveway, but after spending some time shoveling, I finally got the car where it belonged, and we took a few pictures of the snow, and put the snow shovels away for the day and headed indoors for coffee.

More shoveling (the front sidewalks) is still needed, but a look a the thermometer shows it to be about 30 degrees, so it won't be bad, and there is not a rush on that project.

Lilac in the Snow

Lilac in the Snow

Here is a nice picture Vicky took of our Dwarf Korean Lilac covered with fresh snow. A glance outdoors this morning shows that the snow is still clinging to its branches, and things do look quite pretty in the backyard.

No matter how nice snow looks, we have had enough of it and will be quite glad once spring finally arrives.

January Snow at an Omaha Park

Sometimes snow is pretty enough that you just want to get out and admire it. Today was one of those winter days, and, just in case, I grabbed my camera and stuck it in my coat pocket before we headed for Baker's grocery store.

Things did look pretty nice out, so we continued past Baker's and headed for Elmwood Park, one of Vicky's favorite local parks. It was a tad bit cold out, and Vicky borrowed my hat, and I used my backup cap which I keep in the car (usually).

We stayed in the area of the grotto parking lot, and just wandered around a bit, enjoying the outdoors and taking pictures.

How Much Snow Did Omaha Get?

How Much Snow Did Omaha Get?

As you can tell from the above picture, Omaha has more than enough snow on the ground this year, and has some impressive sized piles of snow that the snow plows have created. Near the old fashioned street light is the walkway down to the grotto.

The park had a few people in it today, and more people should have gotten out to enjoy the way it looked. Maybe they are tired of winter? Can't blame anyone for having had enough of this Nebraska winter.

Things look quite a bit different here in winter. If you don't recognize this Elmwood Park location, the picture was taken from the Elmwood Park grotto looking towards the golf course.

By the time I took this picture, Vicky was getting more than a little bit cold, and we headed back to the car, and headed to the grocery store, got our shopping taken care of, and headed for home.

Tidying Up After the Omaha Blizzard

Our neighborhood Omaha street has received it's second pass of the city snowplow, an event that I both look forward to and dread.

You see, by the time the second trip of the snowplow comes around, driveways have mostly all been shoveled nicely enough so that vehicles can enter the street from these driveways, after perhaps hours of shoveling to get them just right.

Then come the snowplows, with their drivers either in a pleasant mood, or perhaps not so pleasant of a mood. We always hope they are in a pleasant mood, but dread their coming, if by chance, they are this time determined to plow as much snow as possible on to the recently cleaned driveways.

A Snowplow from Omaha

A Snowplow from Omaha

...I took a late night glance out the window last night to see if it was snowing, then, seeing there was no snow coming down, decided to head outdoors to try some night time pictures of the Omaha Nebraska snow.

Check this out, an Omaha snow plow made it's second trip down our street, and the street itself looks almost fair, but acceptable, considering what we've had dumped on us.

Yet there is even more to this story...

Omaha Snow Plow Gift

Omaha Snow Plow Gift

Though it was two days past Christmas, the snow plow driver left each and every house on our block a gift, and here is Omaha's Christmas present to us, which was placed on our driveway and carefully positioned so that we would be sure to see it.

Not planning any early morning departures, I decided to leave this pile of snow till morning...

In the morning, Vicky looked out the window and said, "I think that big pile of snow on our driveway is gone."

Somewhat skeptical, I went into the front porch for a better look at our driveway, and yes, that bank of snow was gone! A trip outside for a closer look at this revealed no sign of a snow plow coming back by to tidy things up, however, the were signs that somebody had come by with a snow shovel and cleaned things up for us!

Thank you!
