Squirrel Treat
This picture shows the short tail squirrel having a treat on our deck.

Squirrel Treat
Yes, it is another photo of an Omaha squirrel sandwich, and in this photo the squirrel is eating it in a preferred manner. First lick out the insides (chunky peanut butter), then eat the bread if still hungry...
Yes, this does remind us of Oreo cookies and their commercials, and is proof that this style of eating something tasty is not just limited to humans. After thoroughly eating the inner contents of its sandwich, this squirrel will finally get around to eating the bread.
Squirrel Sandwiches
Vicky's been having fun making squirrel sandwiches lately. I suppose we could call them sandwiches for the squirrels, but I prefer the name squirrel sandwiches.
By accident on one of our grocery shopping trips, I grabbed a jar of crunchy instead of creamy peanut butter, and it sat around in the pantry for quite a while, unwanted, unopened, and unused.

Squirrel Sandwiches 02
We do enjoy feeding "our" squirrels, and Vicky decided just for fun to make a peanut butter sandwich using some of our unwanted crunchy peanut butter and see if the squirrels would eat it. Before putting out this squirrel sandwich, she sliced it into tiny one inch squares to avoid the possibility of just one squirrel taking the entire sandwich.
It turns out, not too surprisingly, that squirrels do indeed like peanut butter sandwiches. These little tiny squirrel sized sandwiches are quite a treat for them, and they will come to the deck, select a sandwich, then scamper off into the arborvitae bush to have their meal, then come back for seconds, thirds, and sometimes a fourth helping.

Squirrel Sandwiches 01
We now have no more of this crunchy peanut butter left, and perhaps on our next trip to the grocery store we may get another jar for the squirrels, they do like this treat, and Vicky has a lot of fun watching them eat their sandwiches.
About these pictures: Obviously these aren't squirrel sandwich photos, but are a couple pictures I took this afternoon.
The top photo is of the friendly one having some bird seed, and the bottom photo is of one of the shy squirrels, trying to be brave enough to come up to me to get a peanut I was holding out for it. No, it was not brave enough yet, but it stayed on the deck to get the peanut I gently tossed in its direction.
January Snow at an Omaha Park
Sometimes snow is pretty enough that you just want to get out and admire it. Today was one of those winter days, and, just in case, I grabbed my camera and stuck it in my coat pocket before we headed for Baker's grocery store.
Things did look pretty nice out, so we continued past Baker's and headed for Elmwood Park, one of Vicky's favorite local parks. It was a tad bit cold out, and Vicky borrowed my hat, and I used my backup cap which I keep in the car (usually).

Enjoying the Snow
We stayed in the area of the grotto parking lot, and just wandered around a bit, enjoying the outdoors and taking pictures.

How Much Snow Did Omaha Get?
As you can tell from the above picture, Omaha has more than enough snow on the ground this year, and has some impressive sized piles of snow that the snow plows have created. Near the old fashioned street light is the walkway down to the grotto.
The park had a few people in it today, and more people should have gotten out to enjoy the way it looked. Maybe they are tired of winter? Can't blame anyone for having had enough of this Nebraska winter.

Omaha Tree and Snow
Things look quite a bit different here in winter. If you don't recognize this Elmwood Park location, the picture was taken from the Elmwood Park grotto looking towards the golf course.

Sometimes a Hat is Needed
By the time I took this picture, Vicky was getting more than a little bit cold, and we headed back to the car, and headed to the grocery store, got our shopping taken care of, and headed for home.
